Introducing Kidlin's Law
Good morning, Salesforce Nerds! Problems giving your problems?
Try this 👉 give your problems problems with this one simple trick 👇
Write them down ✍️.

SCENARIO
Kidlin’s Law
Connie the consultant was stuck. Big chunks of her client’s webform inbounds were failing 👎.
Looking at the failure logs, it looked like bad data entry in the webform. Prospects were using symbols, spaces, and other values not compatible with the corresponding Salesforce fields
She began writing an email to her client- “client, can you pare down the fields you collect?”
She stopped typing 🛑.
She knew her client, the VP of Marketing, would demand context. So she wrote again - “client, can you pare down the fields you collect? The more fields you collect, the higher risk of bad data entry, causing a failed integration.”
Hmmmm, what form is the client is using? A review of the form would give Connie better insights into why the data was so consistently poor.
She started over 🔄.
“Client, can you send the link to your form so I can review the fields and field types? We see multiple integration failures due to bad inbound data and a review of your will help us to know where changes will be most effective.”
But Connie still thought it best to pare down the form. Why risk potential leads or bad data by creating a juggernaut form?
However, Connie rightfully understood this was NOT her decision.
She continued to write her email to her client, continuing to surface new insights thinking through marketing and sales strategy, her potential resolutions, and setting up her client for success.
When she was done writing the email, she realized she had set her client up for success. She was able to write out the full scope of the problem, the considerations, and the choices for resolution-
Option 1 - You want the highest quality leads, and so you will want as many fields as possible while reducing the defective records. So research each error, count up the most common erroneous fields, and remove them. This is a 20hrs of effort request.
Option 2 - You want the most leads possible, so you are willing to pare the form down to name and contact info. This is a 2hrs of effort request.
Option 3 - Make no changes. Create an exception management process for the failed form submissions. This is a 0hrs of effort request.
Connie knew she struck gold. She had a winning technique to problem solve.
Introducing - Kidlin’s Law 🙌
WHAT IS IT?
What Is Kidlin’s Law?
Kidlin’s Law states that if you write a problem down clearly and specifically, you’ve solved half of it.
Laws and principles sound so simple and amazing, and some of them are. But Connie’s story is more realistic for how Kidlin’s Law is most effective.
Rarely will you sit down and let the ink flow into a beautiful solution. Rather, it will be iterative, bumpy, and then beautiful.
WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?
Dominate Problems With Kidlin’s Law
Got a problem? Write it down!
Writing exercises your brain, and nurtures the conditions for it to be successful! Just like a baseball player taking batting practice, seeing the spin on the ball, and grooving their swing ⚾️.
Writing memorializes your thoughts, synthesizes for the gaps, and creates clarity from chaos. Magic 🪄🎩 🐇!
Writing problems down is problem solving. If you write a problem down clearly and specifically, you’ve solved half of it 🙂.
