How The Industry You Work In Affects Your Salesforce Experience

Good morning, Salesforce Nerds! Lil Nas X shared his experience of the entertainment industry and some of it's unique characteristics. Have you considered how the industry that you work in impacts your experience with Salesforce? Not all industries are created equal, especially in regards to technology principles.

For example, will a Salesforce Admin at Spotify, a tech unicorn, have a similar experience to a Salesforce Admin at Amica, a 100 year old insurance company? Not likely. If the platform is the same, then why are the experiences so different? How will they differ? Is one better than the other?

Industry Baby

Industry Overview, From Salesforce Perspective

When we talk about industries, we are referring to the primary activity a group of businesses leverages to make money, like Financial Services or Healthcare.

Salesforce has even developed specialized CRMs for it's biggest industries it services, like Financial Services Cloud (Finance), Health Cloud (Healthcare and Life Sciences), Manufacturing Cloud (Manufacturing), and Non-Profit Success Pack (Non-Profit), among others.

These are well-known industries that have been around for hundreds of years, aka Legacy Industries.

Business has been done much the same way for the past century, with incremental improvements like telephones, email, and now SaaS CRM.

These businesses often have Salesforce as their most current technology, with the rest of their stack being on-premises, distributed through remote desktop connections.

In many cases, it's even less sophisticated, like pen and paper or local Excel files.
