Marc let all of Twitter know that OpenAI talent would be welcomed with open arms at Salesforce.

The response?

He was pretty universally roasted

Nasty burn by Steven, an OpenAI engineer, but Tableau was an acquisition 😉.

By the way, Marc’s lil tweet got him into Forbes, Bloomberg, and a ton of other big (and small) media, in addition to trending on Twitter 🤯.

He knew he was gonna get roasted 💯, and he knew he was about to get a ton of free press with just a few minutes of work, a smart phone, and 280 words 🧠.

Why did OpenAI’s board fire their CEO Sam Altman?

That is not currently known….👀 

What does this have to do with Salesforce?

See above section, Marc took a hilarious shot at the recruiting OpenAI talent 😂.

That’s it. That’s the only Salesforce connection…

Well, here’s a real loose connection-

IF OpenAI collapses, Anthropic is one of the (many) companies hoping to merge with OpenAI assets.

Reminder - Anthropic is also one of Salesforce’s largest venture investments.

So, Salesforce would become a minority stakeholder in OpenAI by way of an Anthropic merger.

This is very unlikely….but OpenAI firing Sam was also very unlikely 😅.

Why should I care?

OpenAI is the most prolific AI company in the world.

You may 🤷, or may not 🤷, have an opinion about Salesforce’s AI push.

Salesforce is in the AI-arena. They are much less prolific, but trail only titans like OpenAI, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and other mega-tech companies.

Salesforce’s growth and reputation as a serious tech company relies, in part, on creating AI solutions, because its industry and all of its competition is racing to the top.

The insane amount of coverage that this OpenAI situation is getting could be seen as validation that the proliferation AI is inevitable.

It’s also true that we’re not there yet. And Salesforce’s current AI solutions are underwhelming. And core products need some non-AI love 💯.

Fine. Ok. So, what’s next?

Impossible to tell, but guessing is fun 🤘 

🔮 Worst Case - Sam joins Microsoft, along with much of his team. Microsoft is not an innovation incubator. Sam departs in a year and…runs for president?

🔮 Best Case - Sam joins Salesforce. He is named as Marc’s successor. Sam brings back process builders and updates the admin UX/UI ❤️.

🔮 Most Likely - Sam is hired back. The board gets shook up. Sam is validated as a top 10 most powerful person on Earth 🌍.
