Today we will discuss-
๐ Axelโs Story ๐บ
AXEL GETS INTO A SALESFORCE CAREER
Axel is an accidental admin ๐.
He was a salesperson, who worked his way up to a Sales Ops role.
In Sales Ops, he was exposed to the administrative side of Salesforce, where he instantly fell in love with the self-serve configurability, and the direct impacts it had on the sales team ๐ฅ.
His boss, seeing that Axel was dedicating more time to Salesforce than his sales teams (and was effective at improving their Salesforce experience), created an official Salesforce admin role for him ๐.
Axel went all-in. He got his admin certโฆ.then, purposefully, 3 more certs-
App Builder - to leverage the โclicks not codeโ platform
Advanced Admin - initially Axel took this exam because it was a natural progression. He gained a better understanding of enterprise considerations, like security, scalability, and exception management.
Dev1 - this was the hardest cert for Axel, but as he progressed in his administration skills, he understood software development would raise his ceiling.
Around Axelโs second year of being a full-time admin, recruiters begin noticing his credentials, and aggressively pursued him for consulting roles.
While it was exciting and validating to be wanted, he loved where he was at, and, honestly, he was anxious at the thought of transitioning to consulting ๐.
Heโs just a self-taught admin who only knows what he knows ๐คท. How would he fare in the professional services world?
It would be a big change. A massive change.
Scary to think about ๐ป โ ๏ธ
PEEK INTO AXELโS DECISION MAKING PROCESS
Axel asked his family and friends about the exciting ๐, but scary ๐ป , prospect of switching roles.
Heโs heard the horror stories about long hours, difficult clients, and a competitive workplace.
But heโs also heard about the variety of work, the focus on service to clients, and the prestige of being โa consultant.โ
Basically, he had the ability to argue for, and against, making the switch.
If he was being honest with himself, he wanted to take the consultant job.
But it was such a big change. And change is scary ๐ป.
Then, his friend said something to him that blew his mindโฆ.
MIND BLOWN ๐คฏ
Axel, why are you scared of change?
Youโve literally built your career on change! Youโve gotten to where youโre at because of your ability to navigate change!
When you were a salesperson, you changed your mindset from an individual contributor, to โwhat does sales look likeโฆas a team?โ and you were promoted to Sales Ops manager!
Then, you changed from a sales professional to a tech professional! I mean, what a massive change that is! You had been in sales for a decade, then you become a 4x certified Salesforce admin who can read a little code!
I remember helping you with Excel vlookup formulas, and now youโre writing complex date/time formulas in Salesforce!
Was the change scary when you went from salesperson to sales ops?
Was it scary when you went from sales ops to Salesforce admin?
Is it scary thinking about going from Salesforce admin to consultant?

AXEL DIGESTS HIS FRIENDโS INSIGHT
Axel was shocked ๐คฏ.
He hadnโt thought about his excellent track record of managing change ๐ .
He suddenly had immense confidence in his ability to succeed in a role that scared him ๐.
But without getting too far ahead of himself, he thought-
โHmmmm, but why was I successful in those changes? What did I do? How?โ
๐ค
He thought about it for a few days. And he kept coming back to 3 common threads โฌ๏ธ
AXEL HAS SKILLS!
1) Ability to Build Trust and Relationships
As an only child, Axel learned, the hard way, how to build relationships. He did things like giving candy to other kids, and asking for nothing in return.
In his professional life, he gives, without expecting reciprocation. His coworkers adore this.
2) Curiosity โ Continuous Learning and Continuous Improvement
Axel is furiously curious. He asks โwhyโ a lot. He reads a lot.
He is a great listener, and applies what heโs learned into improving the current state.
He makes mistakesโฆand he learns from them.
3) Effort
Axel works hard. Always.
Whether he is resetting a password, or building a simple solution for a complex problem, Axel does the work.
Even after finding success in all of the roles heโd been in, he never coasted. He never let up.
He always worked to be better than he was yesterday ๐.
