💃 Salesforce Spent $13.5 Billion On Your Attention...and It Worked 🕺
Plus - Time Fairies, Marc the Scout, and Salesforce Memes
Good morning, Salesforce Nerds! In 2023, Salesforce made $31.3 billion in revenue off of a $13.5 billion spend on Marketing and Sales; and with the fatty budget, their social media strategy is evolving faster than tadpoles. Meta flexed the extreme financial impacts of their 2023 layoffs…will Salesforce’s 2023 layoffs have the same affect? And Marc and I are the same - we are both Scout rank in Trailhead 😁.

DAILY SCRUM
Salesforce Icebreaker
Aren’t you lucky 🍀, triple icebreaker today!
1) Salesforce’s Social Media Evolution
In 2023, Salesforce spent $13.5 billion on Sales and Marketing. That earned them $31.3 billion. If you have machine that you put $1 in and get $2.31 out, then you have a nice machine 🤑!
Within this impressive marketing machine is Salesforce’s social media evolution. Here are some insights about Salesforce’s socials-
They have 150 social channels.
They use Sprout Social to manage them.
They have at least 44 Twitter handles 😳, with their largest account, @Salesforce, having 590k followers.
They have at least 15 Instagram accounts.
They have at least 25 LinkedIn accounts.
Factor in Youtube, Facebook, Tiktok, Threads and other social media, and 150 seems really low….
If an existing customer reaches out via social media, a Sprout Social integration with Service Cloud allows customer care teams to engage 🔥.
They grew their social media team headcount from 4 to 20+ in the last 4 years 📈.
Their new AI ads are easily distributed and consumed across their channels, ie tailor made for scaled up social media. Strategy 🧠.
Why does this matter?
“When people are trying to learn about your brand, the majority actually go to your social media channels instead of going to your website. That’s a huge change from where we were a few years ago.” - Marissa Kraines, vice president and global head of social media at Salesforce
2) A Time-Fairy Salesforce AI Use Case
Time-Fairies 🧚♀️ are the best kinda fairies because they grant you time back.
If you’ve ever been responsible for managing customer escalations, then you’re gonna want to read this-
For customer escalations, you know you have put in some effort to research, plan, and communicate a resolution.
You also know that the research is a massive pain- going through tickets and communications, pulling out decisions and dates, and creating a timeline of events.
Enter Einstein (aka gen-AI, because the name will probably change again….). With the proper prompt, Einstein will generate a timeline of events in a fraction of the time it would take you to pull it all together.
Why does this matter?
Stephan, Director of Strategic Content at Salesforce, recently presented prompt building at Cactusforce where he clicked through a similar scenario. Service teams rejoiced 🙌 🥹.
Again, if you manage customer escalations, this use of AI will give you hours upon hours of your life back 💯.
This feature is going live…perhaps by the time you read this!
3) Will Salesforce Produce a Meta-Like Earnings Call?
In response to Meta’s most recent earnings call, check out these thicc numbers-
On Friday 2/2, Meta stock popped 20% 📈.
This increased Meta’s market cap $120 billion in a single day 😮.
Mark Zuckerberg’s personal stake in Meta increased by $28 billion 😳. For reference- Iceland, Cyprus, and Zimbabwe have GDP’s in this range. Zuck basically created the value of a country in 8 hours….
A major factor in this incredible surge is the layoffs Meta executed in 2022-2023. Reportedly 20,000+ employees were laid off during this stretch 😞.
For context, and understanding these example estimates are low-
Average employee salary of $100k
$100k x 20,000 layoffs = $2 billion in expense reduction
That’s not including benefits (~30% cherry on top) but also doesn’t include the massive severance package expenses (importantly, this is a 1x event, while a salary is YoY).
Why does this matter?!
Salesforce executed a very similar layoff event (all of big-tech did…).
Will Salesforce also see am up-and-right 📈 spike on their next earnings call?
Will Marc also increase his personal net worth by billions of dollars in a single trading period?
Maybe this article (Marc owns Time) is a template for a future Salesforce/Marc article!
