🎁 Our Wishlist for What We Want to See From Salesforce This Year

Good morning, Salesforce Nerds! With Salesforce's new fiscal year kicked off, what are the things we want to see happen? And no, we are not talking about this super lame list that Salesforce puts zero effort into. This is a WISHlist, not a product or feature roadmap. So with that intro, let's get to the list, and the probability of it happening, in today's quick hitting Friday!

Microsoft and Salesforce Make Nice

Let's start with what the entire world wants, but the two companies refuse to ever give us - a clean Microsoft Outlook and Salesforce bi-directional integration. Every current solution sucks. Email syncing is bad. Calendar syncing is awful. Einstein Activity Capture....how did this make it out into the wild😑 πŸ€¬?! The truth is, these two companies hate each other so much, even an invasion of Canada from the North and Mexico from the South would not bring them together πŸ’”.

Salesforce is by far and away the superior CRM compared to Dynamics. However, Dynamics has a solid toehold through a combination of legacy accounts and new, fullstack implementations with a lot of Azure products behind it. The writing is on the wall, Dynamics will go away at some point, but Microsoft isn't going to just rollover and die. Enterprise Software is big, big money. The Azure stack is very respectable, and there are armies of SQL and .NET developers out there to keep the stacks healthy and humming which is a big draw for companies who prefer uniformity and supportability 😴😴. Let's just hope our kid's kids CRMs have seamless email and calendar integrations.....

Sell Tableau, Keep Slack

Slack is great. Buuuut it's kinda a weird fit with Salesforce. If Salesforce is not willing to sell both Tableau AND Slack at a loss (see yesterday's post for why they would consider this) then Slack is the keeper!

Tableau, on the other hand, is both a weird fit with Salesforce and has very low utilization. It is a specialty reporting tool that creates amazing data-driven visuals (really mind-blowing when it first came out, much less so with current AI tools auto-augmenting everything). Sell it at a loss, appease the investors, and continue to nurture Slack and come up with better market fit and sales strategies to grow it.

Buy Gearset!

Yesterday we said there is no chance Salesforce is making any FY2023 big purchases. If they did, this needs to be the one! Our love of Gearset has been well documented, and for good reason - it blows Change Sets out of the water. As well, with DevOps and CI/CD becoming household phrases πŸ‘€, Salesforce needs more than a 3rd party vendor to solve for this, they need to bring it in house!

Salesforce paid insane prices for Slack and Tableau. They will not overpay for Gearset, but it will still cost less than either of their previous at-the-peak purchases. Something that may be holding them back is - how do they properly monetize Gearset? Salesforce loves their subscription model, and Gearset licenses will be in a very low demand. Consider, most orgs will need only 1 gearset license. It would be a very exceptional org that needs 10 gearset licenses. Who cares! Figure it out, Salesforce! Buy this amazing tool!
