Takeaways from Gearset's State of DevOps

First off, let’s understand why this report is so valuable. 🧠

According to Google, the State of DevOps reporting outlines the DevOps practices that drive successful software delivery and operational performance. 🔥

Meaning, we get insights into how successful, high-performing teams are operating throughout the industry! 💥

I think that’s pretty awesome! 😎

As a Salesforce professional, you can leverage this report to 💥👻💥 exorcise the demons 💥👻💥 on your team!

Now, I’m not going to unpack the entire report here. 📦️

You should seriously go read this thing and think about how you can help apply components of it to your environment. 🤔

These practices have helped my team tremendously this past year. We’re able to adapt to changes, promote features safely, and add value sooner! 💯

I cannot overstate their impact! 🤘

There are, however, two stats from the report that grabbed my attention 👀 and I wanted to share here. 🤝

So here we go … ✈️

✅ Adoption

The report will give you insights into the different principles/tools teams are using when they implement a DevOps model. 🏗️

What’s really neat is that you can then see which principle/tool teams are:

  • Currently using 🟢

  • Planning on using 🟡

  • Not planning on using 🔴

The stat that really pops out is the percentage of teams either already using or planning on using CI/CD. 💹

A whopping 83% put themselves in this category. 🤯

As consultants, that means 8️⃣ out of the 🔟 teams you’ll be working with are either going to be executing an automated workflow or they’ll want to be.

It’s easy to understand why businesses are aiming to implement every DevOps tool/process they can, too. 🚀

As noted in the report, 42% of larger teams (20+ team members) are seeing a monthly ROI of over $50k, with 18% of these seeing more than $100k ROI when they’ve implemented every tool/process. 💰️💰️💰️

Source driven development & CI/CD are major prerequisites of this! ⚙️ Position yourself well to help your client base see the light. 💡

✅ Obstacles

Tools and processes are great. 🛠️ But, you need to know how to apply them to your environment. 🧙

DevOps is no different than anything else in that way. 🤷

This is a gap that only experience can close. 🌉

And according to the report, this is the primary obstacle teams are facing when implementing a DevOps model. 🚧

A full 41% of teams that are planning on using 🟡 DevOps report that the main thing holding them back is a lack of experience.

That’s nearly half of the teams saying they need expertise in this area … and they need it now! ⌚️

Look at it this way. Chances are good that out of those 8️⃣ teams you’ll be working on CI/CD with will also need your expertise in implementing it! 🫢

No worries. 🌴 Gearset Pipelines ftw. 😉

This is an opportunity to upskill and help your client base drive out inefficiencies in their delivery process! 🤹
