💃 Yes. The Salesforce Professional Job Market is Saturated 🕺

Now Is Not An Ideal Time to Break Into Salesforce. But......

Good morning, Salesforce Nerds! Yes…the Salesforce professional job market is saturated.

The entry-level supply of workers is especially flooded 🫣.

Despite the saturation, there is a strong residual from the 2020-2022 growth boom that continues attracting newcomers to the Salesforce ecosystem.

Let’s break this situation down ⬇️, and see what’s up ⬆️

THE SOCIAL PROOF

Job postings, especially entry-level, are getting bombarded with applicants.

Even if only half of these shot-shooters are qualified, it’s still daunting to compete with 50-100 other candidates 😯.

In addition to newcomers, experienced Salesforce professionals are unexpectedly becoming available-

Slalom recently had a well-publicized layoff event. While many were in sales and recruiting, plenty were billable consultants. And their experience is valuable on the open market.

Tough competition for newcomers 👀.

Quick note for you mid/senior level professionals-

Y’all are in a much better position than newcomers, but that doesn’t mean you should relax. You have more people chasing you than ever!

A MESSAGE TO NEWCOMERS

For those thinking about entering the Salesforce ecosystem-

You are applauded for the courage it takes to consider and act on a career pivot.

(^or for fresh undergrads, who choose this is as career!)

Salesforce is the #1 CRM in the world and continues to grow, and needs more workers to support the growth!

But…

Salesforce is not an easy button! It is not guaranteed money bags 💰! It is not a quick road to success!

AND THE BARRIER TO ENTRY IS HIGHER THAN EVER!

You have to put in the work 💯!

You have to earn your keep 🙌 !

You must be patient, as you learn, grow, and develop into a competent professional, deserving of a 6-digit compensation 💰!

If you have the time, tenacity, and desire to learn, then Salesforce is a great option 🙂!

CONSIDERATIONS FOR THOSE WHO ARE CONSIDERING

If you are thinking about entering the Salesforce ecosystem, consider these things-

💡 DO NOT expect a quick, easy, or highly-compensated entry. Businesses are catching on that the barrier-to-entry into Salesforce needs to be much higher than what had been previously pushed by the mothership (“Clicks Not Code!” , “🚫 Software 🚫 “!)

💡 DO NOT quit your current role to go all-in on Salesforce, or at least think very hard about this decision. While admirable, there are a bunch of people who have time and experience advantages over you. The most-likely case does not favor the freshly minted.

💡 DO NOT ignorantly poor money (and time) into stacking certs! They’re expensive! Be informed and deliberate on what you want to get out of it, before spending hundreds of dollars on certs 🤑!

💡 DO adopt a continuously learning mindset. It will be your best friend in your Salesforce journey 😉. And once you’ve gotten a role, then to be successful, you will need to always be learning!

💡 DO understand that Salesforce is an Enterprise SaaS CRM Platform, and all the things that roll up into this.

💡 DO understand the most-likely path is long and difficult; but a path well-trodden! Best case and worst case, by definition, are less likely to occur.

BETTER DAYS AHEAD ☀️ 🌈

Quick recap-

  • 2020 to early-2022 was the big growth 🚀

  • Back-half of 2022 was layoffs 😞

  • 2023 has been layoffs, then hiring announcements, then layoffs 😵‍💫

This seems like a market whipsawing, attempting to correct itself.

Here’s why there are better days ahead-

A Lot Of Orgs

⚡️ Salesforce is the #1 CRM in the world, and despite a recent slow down, continues to grow at respectable rates.

⚡️ Salesforce has a super ridiculously high customer retention rate of 91%.

So you have these 2 channels, legacy and new, that are each driving the need for more Salesforce professionals 🙌.

All Those Orgs Need Love ❤️

Customers are learning/have learned that Salesforce is enterprise tech that requires dedicated resources.

Not a sales ops manager or business systems analyst who are part-time Salesforce admin’ing on top of their existing role.

Companies need full-time admins, BAs, and developers for in-house.

Consultants will be needed to refactor tired orgs, manage big initiatives, and implement new orgs.

More With Less

Businesses are looking lean out, after the hiring boom from the 2020-2022

The executive mindset has gone from do more with more….to do more with less 😅.

Why is this good for Salesforce professionals? Well, it’s a big “IF”…..here’s what we mean-

Salesforce is technology 💯.

Technology is leverage 💯.

If companies want to do more with less, then they need to invest in tech, including the people who manage it.

If they don’t invest in their tech, they lose the ability to do more with less 💯.
