Today we will discuss-
💃 The Savory🕺
💃 The Sweet🕺
💃 The Bitter🕺
THE SAVORY
😋 There’s Still a Decent Amount of Job Openings
The large proserv firms - Deloitte, PWC, Accenture - are still posting jobs regularly. Just not at the rate of 2018-2022, when they were aggressively building out their Salesforce practices.
It does look to be job/location specific, so, ramping up teams to tackle new client SOWs.
For in-house jobs, the allocation definitely skews Developer roles. Compared to just a year ago, there are much less $100k admin job postings out there.
😋 A Strong Filtering of Newly Minted Admins
This isn’t savory for newly minted admins who got their Admin Cert and were looking for a career pivot…
Most admin roles require multiple years of Salesforce experience. If you have 6 months or more, definitely apply for these roles. Take your shot.
😋 Specialized Roles - CPQ, Omnichannel, Mule - Are In Demand
A tally for specialized roles, CPQ especially is very much in demand.
Mule, as well, which was surprising at first, but hearing the recent earnings call confirmed Mule sales were rising 📈.
😋 The Mothership
Salesforce is still hiring. Seems to be primarily-
✔️ Sales Leaders - makes sense, as they’ll need more leadership to squeeze the most of their slimmed down sales force.
✔️ AI Roles - Analysts, Developers and ML adjacent jobs, abound.
✔️ The Usual - Product peeps and Engineers. Salesforce is a software product company, after all 🙂.
THE SOUR
😖 Salaries are DOWN
Let’s admit salaries got a lil crazy there for a few. And congrats to everyone who locked into peak salary 💰!
Because them days are gone 💨
Functional salaries are down at least 10% from the peak (early/mid-2022?)
Technical salaries are….all over the place. Senior tech roles are still in demand and still getting paid. Frontline devs are more in-line with the 10% reduction from peak 📉
😖 Hiring Freezes
Slalom’s hiring freeze is well known (more on this below…)
But many small and medium-sized Salesforce partners have either frozen their hiring, or are only backfilling departing workers.
And as mentioned, even the big firms show a pattern of strategic hiring, to satisfy new client contracts.
😖 A Big Shop Cuts Down
Slalom recently laid off 7% of their workforce; about 1000 people. The cuts include, but are not limited to, Sales, Biz Dev, and Recruiters roles.
Citing only “significant shifts in within our industry…”, per Slalom CEO Brad Jackson, Slalom did not comment further, including whether this layoff event right-sizes the company 🤷.
😖 RTO
The dreaded Return To Office (RTO) 🤮.
More than half of the job postings are full-time in office or hybrid (from 1-3 days in the office).
Some postings that were fully remote were taken down and reposted as hybrid or full-time in office.
The Mothership, along with the rest of Big Tech, is certainly leading the charge to RTO 😢.
😖 Tons of Applicants!
Particularly for in-house Salesforce Admin roles, there are hundreds of applicants within hours of a new job posting 🤯!
Certainly a percentage of them are not qualified and are shooting their shot…but plenty are very qualified.
Pretty wild 🐯.
THE BITTER
😬 The Salary Peak Has Passed….but the Floor is Higher
You gotta admit, salaries got a lil crazy there for a few. And congrats to everyone who locked into peak salary 💰!
Because them days are gone 💨.
Functional salaries are down at least 10% from the peak (early/mid-2022)
Technical salaries are….all over the place. Senior tech roles are still in demand and still getting paid. Frontline devs are more in-line with the 10% reduction from peak 📉.
On the bright side, the days of $40k admins and $50k consultants are gone. The floor has been reset higher 20% above pre-pandemic levels (just not as high as peak 2022…) 🙂.
*See the Salary Guide info at the bottom of this email!\
😬 Experience is Premium
This comes across in job postings as needing X years of experience.
There are junior admin roles that require 2 years of experience…WTF!! A junior with 2yrs is an oxymoron 😵💫.
There are mid-level consulting roles requiring 5 years. That seems steep, too. 5 years is an eternity in consulting.
This is good for the experienced. It is the solution to a common complaint that anyone could get their admin cert and be handed a $100k job.
Not so good for the people who were looking at a Salesforce role as their ticket to riches 💵.
😬 This is Regression to The Norm
Again, you knew the insane salary increases and rush to build large Salesforce teams would come to an end, eventually.
Perhaps not this abruptly, though 😢.
All good things must come to an end, and too soon 😭.
